Monthly Featured Artists
Scandals has been happy to lend its wall space to local artists for several years, and 2018 is no different. New art shows open on first Thursdays and go for 1-2 months, so come on down and check out the latest show. We love the opportunity to be a showcase for all the amazing talent found within and around our community. If you are an artist or musician interested in presenting your talent to the Scandals’ family, email Munro.
March & April 2018
With the help of his mother, it was at 2 years old when Steven drew his first recognizable picture; it was Garfield. From then on, there wasn’t a safe piece of paper in the house. When they were 10 and 8 years old, his grandmother enrolled his older brother and he into weekend art classes. This was an experience that benefited both of them greatly.
Throughout high school, his one year of art school at CCS in Detroit, MI, and his four years at the Art Institute of Portland, he honed his abilities and improved his techniques. From there, his primary medium became digital media. He took a position as a graphic designer at a sign shop in 2003, and started learning the Adobe suite. He would be creating graphic art from that moment on.
Currently Steven works for a Marketing and Advertising firm in Portland, as well as running the design end of the internal marketing for Scandals, and taking on random other freelance projects.
This series was a way for him to escape the digital world and rely on his hands, pencils and paintbrushes to get the work done (no “undo” or “copy and paste” here). Once a year he’ll do 5 small paintings for Little Art/Big Cause here at Scandals, but between March and April’s exhibits, this is the largest body of physical artwork he’s ever made.
